Position Description

Responsible for leadership and oversight of KBEMS field-based operations statewide. Directs field staff that are based throughout the state as well as an administrative assistant located in the KBEMS office.

 

The open position, outlined below, is located in Lexington, Kentucky.

Major Responsibilities/Duties

 

  • Provides daily leadership and oversight for KBEMS field staff and assigned office staff. Assures that all agencies are inspected with consistency and in a timely manner. Develops, reviews, and evaluates inspection reports, and formally issues violations to agencies as appropriate. Provides or facilitates appropriate action in correcting violations. Directs field staff to develop plans of action to ensure continued compliance of licensed agencies. Trains field staff and provides quality control to ensure proper documentation and reporting. Training and mentoring of field and assigned office staff. Provides leadership and facilitation to task forces, subcommittees, and committees as needed. Primary contact for all Licensed EMS agencies in the state. Also responsible for an inspection region of Kentucky.
  • Serves as subject matter expert regarding ground and air ambulance statutory and regulatory requirements. Provides consultation to licensed agencies on appropriate operational plans, policy development and best practices. Offers direction to interested parties in obtaining a license to operate an EMS agency in Kentucky.
  • Essential member of the KBEMS leadership team. Involved in the decision making and implementation of strategic processes. Ensures that inspection processes for both air medical and ground ambulance agencies are the most efficient possible with constant evaluation and process improvement. Assures that agency and vehicle inspections are in compliance with Kentucky regulations and statutes.
  • Represent KBEMS at National, State, Local, and Regional Meetings. Represents the Board at various meetings, conferences, and presentations. In times of emergency, represent KBEMS at the CEOC or KDPH SHOC as needed. Represents KBEMS in coordination with other agencies in disaster planning exercises, on scene emergency coordination, and possible EMAC deployment as a resource of the state. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Emergency Medicine, Critical Care, Emergency Management, Business Administration, Public Administration or related field and five years’ experience or equivalent.
  • Paramedic Certification

Preferred Competencies  

  • Master’s degree or equivalent and five (5) years relevant experience.

KY law requires state and national pre-employment background checks as a condition of employment.
