COVID-19 Paramedic Checklist

Kentucky Board of EMS (KBEMS) Emergency Orders as specified in SB 150 and Executive Order 2020-243. The intent of the emergency Orders is to alleviate the regulatory conflicts identified in existing regulations in relation to mitigating the COVID-19 pandemic in Kentucky.

Section A: All Paramedic Applicants must submit the following items:

  • No person shall be eligible for certification/licensure if disqualified in accordance with KRS 311A.050  Please contact KBEMS at or 859-256-3565 if you have any legal questions you may need answered.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • A completed Paramedic Application through your KEMSIS account.
  • If you have ever been certified/licensed by the Kentucky Board of EMS, you can submit a background check through the Kentucky Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC). AOC background check MUST be less than 6 months old at the time of license. 
    • AOC can be access here NOTE: AOC background check must be less than six (6) months old at the time of application for Emergency. 
    • KBEMS ONLY uses CastleBranch for any new/initial applicant in Kentucky. You must link directly to the KBEMS specific CastleBranch Background Check from the KBEMS website or the link is provided below. CastleBranch background check MUST be less than 6 months old at the time of application. CastleBranch can be accessed here

Section B: Initial-Applicants applying for the first time from a Kentucky approved course must submit the items from Section A and Section B.

Section C: Temporary- Applicants applying for temporary status must submit the items from Sections A and C (Note: Course completion date must be within 24 months prior to the date of application submission.) Temporary license option discontinued February 19, 2021.

  • Proof of state license or NREMT certification OR
  • Proof of completion of a KBEMS approved Paramedic course
    • Course Verification Form
  • Fees submitted $200.00 Total ($125.00 Temporary Fee + $65.00 Certification Fee + $10.00 Application Fee)

Section D: Reciprocity- Applicants applying for reciprocity must submit the items from Section A and Section D 

  • Proof of current or past certification (State, NREMT, or provisional)
  • Fees submitted $200.00 Total ($125.00 Reciprocity Fee + $65.00 Certification Fee + $10.00 Application Fee)

Section E: Reinstatement-Applicants applying for reinstatement whose certification has lapsed, must submit the items from Section A and Section E

  • Proof of previous KY Paramedic license
  • Evidence of successful completion within 24 months preceding their application for reinstatement of the “Paramedic Minimum Continuing Education Requirement” that includes thirty (30) structured contact hours of continuing education, to include the following minimum contact hours and topics:
  • Fees submitted $275.00 Total ($150 Reinstatement Fee + $65.00 Certification Fee + $10.00 Application Fee + $50.00 Late Fee).
