All ambulances that operate in Kentucky must be approved by the KBEMS.

New or replacement vehicles may not be placed into service until they are inspected!

Ground Ambulance Addition/Replacement/Deletion

Follow the steps at the bottom of the page to complete your Vehicle Change Application

  • $150.00 for each vehicle at the agency location
  • $100.00 for each vehicle at the inspector's location

Once KBEMS has received your Vehicle Change Form and the appropriate fees, you will be contacted by one of the Field Operations Staff. They will inspect your new vehicle and allow you to place it in service.

The Kentucky Board of EMS has developed a list of items that are required on Ground Ambulances in Kentucky. That list is included below.

Temporary Vehicles

Sometimes, agencies are placed in situations where resources are scarce due to mechanical breakdowns, accidents, etc. KBEMS does have provisions for the use of temporary vehicles in regulation.

A licensed provider may use a replacement vehicle on a temporary basis if an approved vehicle is out of service. A temporary replacement vehicle shall not be used for more than 30 days unless the KBEMS office has verified through inspection that it meets administrative requirements.

A licensed provider may use a replacement vehicle on a temporary basis if an approved vehicle is out of service. A temporary replacement vehicle shall not be used for more than 60 days unless the KBEMS office has verified through inspection that it meets administrative requirements.

 

Reporting Requirements

An agency must notify the KBEMS office within twenty-four (24) hours or on the next business day when a Temporary vehicle is placed into or removed from service.

 

Vehicle Change Form Application Instructions

  • Logon to your Personal KEMSIS Account.
    • Note: You will not have access to the functions below, unless you are listed as an Operations Officer for the service which you are wishing to complete these actions. Please contact our office or your inspector if you do not have access.

  • Once you have logged into the system, Go to 'Apply for a License or Renewal' 

     

  • Once on the Applications Page, look for the section that specifies the agency for which you are applying.

  • Look for the section that states "Applications Available for [Your Agency Name Here]"

  •  NOTE: If you have multiple licenses, please ensure you are applying under the correct license.

  • Select the Application that applies to your situation.

  • "Vehicle Change - At Inspector Location" - Application if you will meet the inspector at a place of his or her choosing.

  • "Vehicle Change - At Agency Location" - Application if you wish for the inspector to come to your agency.

  • "Aircraft Addition or Deletion" - Application for Aircraft

  • NOTE:You will need to complete a separate application for each vehicle you wish to add.

  •  

  • At the completion of the Application, you have the option to pay with a Credit Card.

  • If you choose to not pay with a credit card, please submit a check or money order to KBEMS that includes your agency name and license number.

  • Applications will be processed when the application is complete and the payment is received.
